Poems of smallness and silence

After reading D.H. Lawrence's two poems "Nothing to Lose" and "The White Horse" students tried to imagine what could be inside very small things and what the sound of very quiet places could be and then wrote poems of any length or style.

Hollow Underworld

I find a dead cell
in the hollow part of
the underworld. I open it
and find a fat guy with
his own personal one-of-a-kind
gravity.

My happy place is heaven
I heard birds tweeting
An ant on my hand
An ant walking
on my toys
it is fun to watch
and so funny.
Then I see my mom
and we play ball.
Then we say bye
and I go home
and see my dad
and my new mom.

I have
a crumb

cookie taste

On the inside, wrapped up in a bow just for you,
there is a you my dear. I love you
piece of dirt just the way you are,
with a worm.
The quietest place
is a closet
and an echo.
You can turn
on the light
if you look
up and maybe
you can see
heaven. A bird
flying down
with flowers
wrapped up in a
bow just for
you my dear.
I love you
because you just the way you are
the most beautiful thing in the world.

In a quiet place
I hear a strange
sound a duck and
a elephant were
kissing in front
of the library
and then they stopped
and went to buy
ice cream and
the elephant
squished the duck
and then the duck
slapped the elephant
and the duck went
home without seeing
the elephant for
years.

One time I found

I was in the tree house listening to
birds singing and air planes going past
and a doll shoe walked past and it
magically opened and a doll feet came
out and boy wasn't I scared.

I'm in a quiet
place that place
is a dark room
all I felt was
wind. There
was sand in that
sand I found
gold! The gold
was small. It was
so small I couldn't
see it. It wasyellow
like a banana.

I am in the
doctor's it is so
quiet I hear phones
ringing. Behind a couch
in the doctor's is a piece of a
earring I open it
up and it's dust
it is so cool
but I cough a lot.
